Nissan Datalogging and ECU Reprogramming Pre 2005 Nissan Support Nissan cars that have the grey 14pin Consult connector (you'll usually find it near the fusebox). These cars are usually built from year 1989 to 2000, including models such as 300ZX, Z32, Maxima, 240SX, S13, S14, Skyline, SR20DE, SR20DET, RB20, Altima, and Fairlady. Nissan Consult is supported on most petrol powered (generally not diesel) Nissans built in the 1990s.
If the car has the, it will most likely support consult. There are exceptions to the rule, however. Consult is only supported on the Nissan ECUs, so replacement ECUs like the PowerFC, etc, will not support it (remapped/daughterboards ECUs or those with piggybacks like SAFC should be fine). Also some late model cars from 1999 may have an OBDII port and a Consult port, but only retain the consult port it for ancilliary systems (like AT, AirCon, HICAS, etc) diagnostics, but the main ECU may be OBDII. Background A 'consult interface' cable allows the connection of a Laptop/PC to a Consult capable car for diagnostics with Consult programs. The cables are not 'straight through', but have an electrical circuit inside the connector (not just a case of putting connectors on the ends of a cable). Generally all Nissan Consult interface cables should work with all Consult software, although some circuit designs offer better compatibility with all vehicles.

Using the Cable The steps for actually using the cable and software (see next section) are relatively simple: • Plug one end into car's. Often located near fuse box area • Plug other end into laptop usb or serial port (or for Pocket PC, into null-modem adaptor or blaZt iPAQ cable) • Ensure car is either ON (ignition on, but not running) or RUNNING. Consult port doesnt get power on ACC.
Hi, I see theres alot of consult connection problems so hopefully someone can help. I have: > WC34 Stagea S2 Neo rb25det (ECU: 0V8XX, type 4) installed in a 91 240sx HB with consult port connected correctly (verified with wiring diagram, all grounds double and triple checked, was able to connect via mac osx and this cable way back in the day using consultan >an 'ebay' consult cable that I lost the drivers for (it came with a CD), bought it a few years back and got it to connect before I had nistune board isntalled on this ECU. >Windows 7 laptop I have been attempting to connect but cant, I tried 2 diff methods: First attempt when the PLMS drivers from FTDI website are installed per the PDF instructions from FTDI, I am able to install the first driver making it into a serial USB, but afterwards it doesnt let me do the second layer of install which assigns the coms port so I have no COM listed in the device manager, nor does nistune connect. Second attemptWhen I first plug in the cable with no drivers installed it says: FT232R UART USB, so I hop on over to the FTDI website and downloaded the VCP drivers for this specific device instead of using the PLMS recommended ones. With this method I install the serial USB, and then I am able to see the COM port as well, after the second layer of driver install. Its listed as COM3 in my device manager. With both install methods I am unable to connect to anything, I've tried Nistune, ECUTALK, Conzult.
